Presidential Messages
1) ONS 9th Annual Institutes of Learning November 14-16, 2008, Seattle, WA
Martha Purrier and Ann Doyle are busy at work coordinating the effort between ONS and PSONS. They updated the board meeting at the January 14th meeting and lots of opportunities exist to help. Please look for future request for volunteers and committee members in upcoming e-mails, flyers and postings on the PSONS website.
2) From ONS: The polls are currently open until February 14th, and we hope you will join your colleagues by voting for 2 Directors-at-Large and 2 Nominating Committee members. It’s easy! All the information you need is available on http://www.ons.org/membership/election/candidates07.shtml.
Remember voting makes you eligible to win one of two $500 ONS scholarships!

Membership News
ONS has sent PSONS a list of potential local members, members that belong to nationals but do not belong to a local chapter. The list contains the names of 250 individuals that according to their data do not belong to our local chapter. The membership committee will be sending out a letter to invite individuals on the list to join our chapter. If you are already a member of PSONS and receive the letter please let the membership committee know so we can update the cross referenced list. Because memberships over lap and expire at different points in time an accurate list is an ongoing challenge.

Please welcome our new members
Arlyce Coumar, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance
Amy Cravy, Bristol Myers Squibb
Carol Oshima, GNE

Educational News

The education committee is still working on standardizing the day of the monthly educational networking dinners. As you can imagine it is a chore since speakers may not always be available on the days we set. Please thank your committee members for all their hard work.

NOTE: No shows at dinners cost the sponsors money and make it difficult for the education committee to plan events. At symposium there will be a discussion on a reservation fee for participation.
Please be prepared to discuss
1) Pros and Cons of reservation fees

2) If the money is refunded or used for sponsoring other programs

3) From ONS: There is a newsletter available regarding the “30th Annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium” on line @ www.educationalconcepts.net/sabcs/SABCS_Newsletter.pdf. Please consider sharing this with your ONS group - it is a good review of high dose chemo, AC vs. TC, oncotype dx, etc. It provides 1.5 contact hrs.

4) Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course - ONS has a live 2-day Chemotherapy and Biotherapy program available at a location near you! This course provides nurses with a comprehensive overview of chemotherapy and biotherapy and includes information on newly approved drugs (available at the time of publication) to keep nurses apprised of the latest developments in drug therapy. Participants must be licensed registered nurses who have been employed as such for a minimum of six months. This course content is appropriate for nurses who are new to chemotherapy administration, as well as for those who want a comprehensive review. See the PSONS website for details
More educational offerings, not directly sponsored by the PSONS education committee, are listed on the web page
5) From ONS: New PEP card Volume Now Available
The latest volume of the highly-popular PEP card series is available now! This new two-card set features the topics of pain and prevention of bleeding. Order your set today. http://esource.ons.org/ProductDetails.aspx?sku=INPEPV03

Communications News

If you have been thinking about becoming more active in our PSONS chapter, the communications committee has some great opportunities to get you involved.
We are looking for two volunteers to be editor and co-editor of the quarterly newsletter. Time commitment is about 10-12 hours per quarter.
We also need “reporters” to help with recurring articles (200 – 500 words per article or interview) and/or original articles (500 words).
If you have a one time article on research you have done or a project that you feel your fellow members may be interested in we would love for you to contact us as well
If you want to suggest someone for the PSONS profile we want to hear from you. Many of our members are doing great things that the board may not know about so its up to our members to fill us in.
The next summer issue will be on PSONS Nurses in Action highlighting evidence based practice. This is a great opportunity to be a part of an excellent team and contribute to your chapter. For more information contact Linda Cuaron 206-605-8750 or email, lcuaron@comcast.net
